This year is the 145th Kentucky Derby on May 4, 2019, and with contenders such as Omaha Beach, Maximum Security, Code of Honor, and War of Wills—this Derby fits right in with the American Legion! So, following the festivities of the Estes Park Duck Race, American Legion Post 119 is hosting a Derby Day party for revelers of all ages. Details for the Derby event are discussed below.
Adults $25 includes one adult beverage of choice
Ages 11-20 $20 includes a Derby Goody Bag
Ages 10 and under $15 includes a Derby Goody Bag
A $5 discount for all tickets purchased before May 4. Get them at the Legion or call 970-586-6118 for a credit card purchase to pick up at the event.
Post 119 has recently acquired a new audio-visual system for the Great Hall that allows streaming of network race-day coverage onto a giant-screen with great resolution. You can watch all the action, from the time that NBC coverage begins at 2:30 pm, with the pre-race merriment, to the 4:50 post time, to the post-race champagne toast to the winner.
A bucket raffle is planned for the Kentucky Derby which might allow YOU to be a winner too! Raffle tickets will be sold for $1 each (6 for $5). A bucket will be set up for each horse in the Derby race, and ticket buyers will drop their raffle tickets into the buckets for their favorite horses. At the end of the race, a raffle ticket will be drawn from each of the buckets of the “WIN” “PLACE” and “SHOW” derby horses. The ticket drawn from the WIN bucket will receive 40% of the event raffle ticket sales, with the PLACE and SHOW winning tickets receiving 20 and 10 percent respectively. For example, if we sell $1,000 worth of raffle tickets, the WIN ticket gets $400, the PLACE ticket gets $200, and the SHOW ticket gets $100. You MUST be present to win!
The Hat Contest
A big part of the Derby fun is Derby wear, especially the HATS! So dress in your Derby partying finest for the event, and you have another chance to be a big winner!
