Listening at the Legion
American Legion Post 119 is proud to announce the debut of what we believe will become a world class Listening Room, presenting nationally acclaimed singer/songwriters, as well as local amazing singer/songwriters, on a regular basis to Estes Park.
Unlike a bar setting where artists often perform cover music while competing with beers and loud discussions for the patrons’ attention, a Listening Room is a more intimate setting where artists perform songs they themselves have written, for an audience that is appreciative and attentive.

Centennial Celebration
Post 119 celebrated its 101st birthday (Centennial Celebration was delayed due to Covid) and the Auxiliary celebrated its 100th birthday in May 2021. Delicious BBQ, lively music, and poignant tributes were enjoyed by members and supporters. We were overjoyed to celebrate and honor Veterans in person once again.

Circle 119 celebrated Independence Day on July 3rd and 4th in order to support social distancing policies. Delicious BBQ, lively music, and generous raffles were enjoyed by hundreds of people. We appreciated the opportunity to meet old friends and new, while celebrating the founding of our country.

After many weeks of darkness, we were excited to reopen at the beginning of June! Visitors enjoyed free food, refreshing drinks, and sing-along music in front of our newly renovated historic building. With a new tavern license, Circle 119 is now open to all visitors. Members (veterans, sons, auxiliary, and our new friends category) receive discounts and opportunities to win special prizes. Come in today!

Circle 119 responded to a need in the community - hot meals for those affected by Covid-19 restrictions. A team of volunteers, led by Chef John, prepared over 1,000 meals every week for nine weeks. Thank you to the Estes Park Non-Profit Resource Center, Town of Estes Park, and the countless volunteers for filling this need in our community.

Through the generous creative genius of Kovo Mendoza and a host of volunteers, our 3rd annual Haunted House at American Legion Post 119 was a great success! The festivities kicked off with a tombstone-decorating party which was great fun! The creativity and generosity of sponsors was displayed through our ghoulish graveyard as people enter the front door of the Legion building. Volunteers who supplied the snack bar, ran the games, served as "scare-actors" and helped feed the crew were incredibly generous with their time and talents. And the final kid-friendly day was a great opportunity to enjoy the creative costumes of the younger set!

Each year we pause to honor our veterans for the service that they have given to our nation. Here in Estes Park, we started the day with a hearty breakfast at Post 119. With the exception of the World War II years, Post 119 has served a Veterans Day Breakfast every year since 1928. In 2018, the snow was falling all morning long, but brave souls still made it out for the special day! The breakfast is free for all Veterans and only $5 for all others thanks to the generous donations from local businesses. Breakfast was cooked by Post 119’s Sons of the American Legion, and served by Cub Scout Pack 8 of Estes Park with assistance from the Post 119 Auxiliary and Explorer Post 911. The menu included scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, pancakes, toast and the SOS (hamburger gravy on toast) of military tradition. Thanks to all the Veterans for their service, and the volunteers who made this a great morning!

A packed house had the privilege of listening to a former Tuskegee "Top Gun" Airman tell about his service in this unique division of the armed forces.
To honor and remember on 9/11
American Legion Post 119 and Flinch Forward held a 9/11 Remembrance of the 2,983 men, women and children who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001. We also honored our local veteran and active duty military, firefighters and police officers. American Legion Commander Loren Shriver, Estes Valley Fire Protection District Training Officer Paul Capo, Estes Park Police Department Captain Corey Pass and Flinch Forward Board Member and US Navy Reserve Commander Kendra Ryan spoke on behalf of their organizations. An honor guard was present and there was a moment of silence in remembrance of the victims. Refreshments were provided by Poppys Pizza and You Need Pie.
Post 119 American Legion Riders are Chartered
September 15 was a great day for American Legion Post 119! Our new program, the Post 119 American Legion Riders received their charter in a ceremony attended by dozens of ALR members from throughout the region. We shared moments of honor, moments of camaraderie, moments of patriotism, and a heartfelt optimism for the future of the Riders program. And then... lunch! Thanks to all who joined together for this great occasion!
Cancer Benefit
When one of our own Auxiliary members, Tammy Grewe, had to face the physical, emotional, and financial trials of breast cancer, Post 119 and friends decided it was time to hold a Cancer Benefit to help pay the medical bills for victims like Tammy. A huge success brought in over $14,000 for this mission!

On June 27, Post 119 held a joint meeting of the Legion, SAL and Auxiliary membership. Highlight was the installation of the 2018-2019 Legion Officers by District 4 Commander Harry Fisher. The new Department Commander, Robb D. Smith, was a guest at the event. All members unanimously voted to add an American Legion Riders program to the Post 119 family.

With its prime location overlooking Lake Estes, Post 119 is the best place to celebrate our nation's birthday each July 4. Hamburgers, hot dogs, watermelon, and live bands add to the joy of this special day.
